kay suzuki, a london-based japanese producer and dj, has grown up surrounded by quality music since his whole family love music. he s influenced by music with social / cultural background of its time and place such as soul, jazz, funk, afro-beat, latin, house, broken beat, detroit techno, and everything in between or beyond. dubbed ?the hardest working japanese producer/ dj in london, kay isn t about any particular genre of music - or whether it s electronic or live, but rather about the grooves that makes bodies and hearts move. he makes this magic happen through his own night and label called b i p o l a r , which came from his philosophy towards art and human sense.

this special release is dedicated to detroit dj legend ken collier. his untimely passing touched me personally as he was one of a small few who supported my music and me. because of ken collier, detroit developed a dance scene, which inspired artists & producers to make dance records, which gave birth to techno, which has provided careers for so many of you in the business today. so i dare ask all you techno producers, djs, record labels, record shops, clubs which play techno music and fans of techno to pay respect to ken collier just as you would our other fine music innovators. however, this special compilation isn t about techno, it s about h.o.u.s.e sound - broadcasting it to you from live inside the st-er-eo. this record contains no artist or track listing because i don t want this to be about who made the tracks, track titles, or even who wrote this commentary. this is my personal tribute to him, and how he has motivat ed me to make my contributions to house music. thank you ken collier, for helping me grow, not just as a dj or a record producer, but also as a person. every dj and dance artist here in detroit owes thanks to you for going out into the musical forest, chopping down trees and paving the way for us to build house.

the third 12 inch in this essential edit series sees greg wilson reference his past as a disco dj in the late 70s and, subsequently, electro-funk pioneer of the early 80s. going way back to his golden guinea days, ruff wrap revitalizes a hidden gem from 1977 by lady love. this version of casey & finchs infectious miami groover, wrap your arms around me, was a record that, although never issued in the uk, was a particular club favourite on merseyside - its local popularity very much down to one of wilsons influences, terry lennaine, who championed the track on his weekly specialist soul show, keep on truckin. moving on 6 years to 1983, ruff rapp re-arranges the seminal west coast rap cut bad times (i cant stand it) by captain rapp, which was a monster tune on the black scene during the electro-funk era, having initially featured at wilsons club nights back then, legend and the hacienda in manchester, plus wigan pier. focusing on the social problems of the time, the subject matter of the lyric certainly translates to the current credit crunch climate. the crew behind >bad times< included jam & lewis and rich cason, whilst kimberly balls excellent vocal sets the whole thing off

disco fizz is the second album by italian disco group azoto. many say that azoto pioneered the whole italo sound, with incredibly ahead of their time productions going right back too 1977. disco fizz may contain one of the most covered disco tracks of all time san salvador, which has reared its head under countless of remixes and pop cover versions, however if you dig a little deeper this album is packed full of incredible and timeless italo disco. anytime or place literally jumps out the speakers to get you moving, while >exalt exalt< showcases their take on the darker side of electronic disco.

big star arkus p on mario rainieris hard techno imprint. epic breakbeats start the a1 track with a lucious string and uplifting vocals. the beat drops and the crowd is going crazy! follow up on the a side with a dirty grimey hard techno monster with a huge breakdown and noise! the flip starts of with a monster of a kick and filled with all kinds of nasty edits. this is defenitely the hardest track on the ep. second track on the ep is marios own version of hot space. funky beats and a weird vibe that will appeal to the jumping crowd!

support by enzo elia, sultan, oliver koletzki, martin eyerer, marc romboyà flash recordings was a result of collaborations between oliver koletzki and florian meindl back in 2006, now after olivers label stil vor talent took off and flooded him with work, florian manages flash on his own. the first musical statement for this new paths florian is going comes in the shape of a single with two perfectly crafted dance-floor weapons: >time to move< is a disco tech- house tool built with a solid and mechanic meindl beat&bass construction, which ends up in a superlong break before it gets hit back by the beat.

second installment by berlin based mri who successfully cultivated since 2002 some serious dance terrains. this release carries two outstanding and rare remixes as well as one original track. by taking techno deep into the mine shafts of dub, chain reactions / basic channel artist fluxion created an eerie, full-circle remix of the latter. you can hear that a man is at work who knows his gear well and is good in what he is doing. the production is brilliant, the selection of sounds superb, set-ups are constructed with caution, superimpositions are finely layered, propagations and ripenings are get going in a well-considered manner. dreadnaught bassline, steady hi-hats and lo-fi clips – a must for basic channel fans ! on the flip, young talented producer u.e.s. delivers the meanest blend of modern techno style and reduced shaped subs that just creams it on every system. and as well as both guys together does mri with original track rough. the „el castillo“ ep separates the styles over two sides and with „rough“ functioning as a wicked minimal techno track with shifted groove hinging on a grinding bassline - drives the track into abyssal techno territory. fans of basic channel and modern electronic music enthusiasts will be all over this beauty.

over the last year a new generation of young and ambitious house producers from frankfurt to mannheim have caused quite a stir. vera heindel is part of the scene in the rhine main area, which is the new centre for innovative and modern house and techno tracks, and peoples house, her first release on cargo edition at the end of 2008 received huge attention from critics and fans alike. this time around vera dishes up four top-notch house tracks for us which demonstrate her unique way of producing - using reduction and funk, the two constants of her music. jump the hump concentrates on two things: a devastastingly simple bassline and a vocal sample which gives the track a lightness and an understatement which you seldomly find in house tracks. miss fitz, veras project partner in mara trax, heads more to the dancefloor with her remix, but without giving up the special character of veras style. the b-side continues to drive with a high dose of funk. a clear organ chord gives ling both playful and elegant moments and with the vocal sample and the easy-going beats it becomes a typical vera- track. the final track on the ep hallimasch is espescially catchy with its melodic and complex style, triggering positive feelings all around

for the joy of those who know (and even more so for those who dont...), here come some classics with the capital c. treated, reworked and re edited by the unusual suspects, these gems shine for quality originality, and most of all, variety. from the late 60s (b2) to the 21st century (b3 came out only a few years ago), this 12inch encompasses some immortal tracks that bring joy to whomever the listener. different folks, different strokes, yet a1 had to be one of the most air played tune of the 80s, given the popularity it still enjoys. a2 is one of the finest moments in a legendary funkateers career: top class arrangements and groove. b1 sounds like the perfect summer outdoor party tune...boogie oogie oogie! no... not that one thats been rinsed for decades, this ones less predictable. b2 shows theres room for bop modal deepness in this killer 12inch, going back as far as the late 60s... on blue note of course. closing the series b3, a real surprise duet of the new millennium from an album that even topped the charts in 2004... smashing! dj or not, this 12inch is real hot! bring out those summer bbq grills, for we got the soundtrack.

limited vinyl edition of the black dog s new album on soma quality recordings. each of the 500 copies is hand numbered and screen printed by the artists. 3 x 180g heavyweight vinyl. the black dog are without a doubt one of the hardest working acts in electronic music. no sooner have they released one of 2008s best albums in >radio scarecrow< and the massive 12 inch >detroit vs. sheffield< which featured two remixes from detroit minimal grandmaster robert hood, they now prepare for their next album release. >further vexations< is a real successor to >radio scarecrow<. the thinking behind the predecessor is still very evident with even more bite, but theres something about the new album that lends itself to the dark club atmosphere. perhaps the recent bout of constant gigging has had its effect on the act because this one is going to be tearing up floors around the world on its release. >further vexations< might have taken half the time to create but still manages to maintain the same degree of meticulous detail and attention as its predecessor, and is a complete package of tracks demanding to be listened to from start to finish. >further vexations< looks to rouse the sort of political attitudes that have been sorely missing from electronic music since raves backlash against the criminal justice act in the 90s.

welcome to cascandy! a new project of a well known german producer is going to be huge! the debut single -one- will surely be one of the big, upcoming summer dance floor killer tracks in 2009 and is very equal like -cecille, voltage musique, oslo, or 8bit sound.

first release for this new italian label, who claim to bring techno back to its top level. we re inclined to agree with those sentiments, as are the others who have received promos of the release. the a side consists of two deep and dark techno tracks, that should also find favour with more minimal djs. they are apparently by a popular northern european artist, going under the guise of ????. the label has kept such a secret that we dont even know who it is. on the b side, we have a soz adams (esperanza, archipel, gumption) remix of label head obtane and fris, which is a retro chicago style excursion, and german duo sebastian herre and obscure close the ep with a more detroit techno inspired track.

following the phenomenal success of volume 1 was never going to be easy, but pat les stache strikes again ! his informative and well respected american athlete blog has become an addictive and invaluable resource for all eager disciples of the good groove, shining a light on the often forgotten tracks from an overpopulated genre. as a true afficionado, these edits and amends are done with plenty of reverence for the originals, without ever losing site of their need to work the floor these four tracks shine a light on less well known, often lp cuts from household names like john davis & nightlife unlimited to obscure acts like shîtan. all lovingly drawn out and twisted into new arrangements by a man who certainly knows his craft

on side a: markus homm, mihai popoviciu and jay bliss. three sophisticated artists with releases on highgrade, imigrant and foundation records. this magical trio created this funky, deep house track for us, which brims over with groove and energy. on side b we are ver happy to welcome a newcomer, who is going to be listened to a lot soon. felx feygin grew up in brooklyn new york, and still lives there. about himself he says: äone day i fell in love with jazz, then we got married and had little deep house babies.ô when you listen to this track, you will know what he means! and if that was not already enough, there is a fantastic ôdop -remix. they are responsile for the fresh sound made in france, and brought us a lot of joy with there releases on circus company. and because this trio is something special, the boy sang some lines of the text for this remix themselfes. the outcome is genuine and we are very happy

when a producer of the calibre of pete heller, with an intricate knowledge and understanding of the history of house music, started experimenting with an old roland 303 in the studio over a dub of a track hed been working on, there was only ever going to one result – something very special indeed! so taking a few days off from studying for his masters degree in digital media, pete heller crafted another stunning timeless club track. when john digweed heard the resulting sabotage he swiftly signed it to his bedrock label and agreed with pete that the track should be remixed by the mighty tom stephan and his london based iranian sidekick kamisshake.
